Membership Etiquette

Practice correctly according to your teacher's methods and philosophy. Respect your own and your partner's limits.

Observe appropriate dress and hygiene: clean clothing and body, no jewelry, no drugs. No street shoes or hats inside the dojo. Keep finger and toenails trimmed and filed smooth to avoid cuts.

Cheerfully respect all dojo rules. They foster an environment in which we cultivate body and mind.

Respect and honor your peers, seniors, and instructors. They are pleased and obliged to help you. Take care of them, as you would wish to be cared for. Obey instructions from seniors and instructors to the best of your ability: instructions are offered for your welfare, the good of the dojo, and for the preservation of the true spirit of Japanese martial arts.

Support our Tuition and Membership Policy: pay on time, regardless of attendance.

Tuition Policies

PNBA enrollment IS REQUIRED to participate in any regular dojo program Excluding special events open to the public.

Tuition reflects school enrollment, NOT CLASS FEES *PNBA is a private school supported primarily by enrollment fees: tuition levels, class schedule, events calendar, and member entitlements are determined by the Board of Directors each mid-December and are intended to support all the activities of the school: tuition does not represent payments for specific classes. Members are expected to consistently support the dojo throughout the year, regardless of attendance, to ensure our school's financial health.

TUITION REQUIRED REGARDLESS OF ATTENDANCE The option to contribute dues monthly is an important member privilege: if the option of monthly dues is chosen, tuition contributions are required for each month regardless of class attendance. Excuse from this obligation can be granted only by the Chief Instructors in accordance with financial aid policies established by the Board of Directors; written requests must be made in advance to any sabbatical or lapse in tuition contribution. Any excuse from tuition obligations will apply to the month following the request, provided the request is approved. Members will be notified in writing of the terms of their financial aid. A lapse in tuition contribution of more than one month without prior written arrangement with the Treasurer jeopardizes enrollment status, eligibility for rank promotion, member discounts, voting rights, and attendance of classes. A re-enrollment fee in lieu of back dues will be required to restore membership privileges, excluding the right to test for rank promotion which - in the absence of prior arrangement - shall necessarily be postponed for one calendar quarter.

30-DAY NOTICE REQUIRED TO CHANGE MEMBERSHIP STATUS Once a membership category and amount of tuition contribution have been selected, any and all changes will require 30 days written notice before the amount of tuition payment can be changed.

CONTRIBUTE BY THE FIRST; LATE FEES To be a member in good standing tuition must be paid by the 1st of the month regardless of class attendance. A grace period for monthly tuition contribution is observed until the 3rd of the month. PNBA must meet its financial obligations before the third of each month or hefty late penalties apply. Members contributing tuition after the 3rd of the month are expected to contribute late penalties ($10 per person) willingly and without the necessity of being asked. Members who contribute tuition late three times in one year will be referred to their Chief Instructor/President for assistance with meeting the obligations of dojo membership. Eligibility to test for rank promotion is contingent upon currency of tuition payment, and late fee contributions, and all other fees.

NSF CHECKS $20.00 fee for NSF or stopped payment checks.

DISCOUNTS & SCHOLARSHIPS PNBA strives to make our programs as accessible to the public as possible, regardless of economic status. Work-study financial aid is available for members in good standing who have been enrolled for a minimum of three months. No multiple discounts. Regular members may apply to their Chief Instructor for financial aid options.

Tuition, Seminar, & TEST FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE Tuition levels, entitlements, class schedule, programming, and dojo events calendars are approved by the Board of Directors each December, and are subject to change at any time. Tuition and rank promotion fees are non-refundable, and must be submitted prior to the test. Full refunds are only made if PNBA cancels or reschedules a particular event or program and you cannot reschedule, or if you notify PNBA you are dropping out before the start of your first class. Partial refunds (50% of fees) are made if you notify PNBA you are dropping out before the start of the second class. One day seminar fees are non-refundable. No refunds will be made outside these conditions.
