The PNBA announces

Martial Arts Benefit Demo for Seattle Children's Hospital

Blackbelts rated among the best in the United States are joining forces to put on an action-oriented martial arts demonstration for the whole family on June 23. All proceeds from the event will go to help Seattle Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center.

The Pacific Northwest Budo Association will bring together masters of several of the most popular and modern Japanese martial arts for a 6:30 p.m. show at the Phinney Neighborhood Center's Community Hall.

Demonstrations will include the Japanese "Gentle Art of Defense" Kokikai Aikido, as well as that staple of popular films from Bruce Lee to Jet Li in the form of Seido Karate, and the flashing blades and precise choreography of Iaido: Japanese swordsmanship - the dueling style which served as inspiration for the exciting light saber and sword battles made famous in the popular films Star Wars and The Last Samurai.

Feature performances by local professional martial artists and teachers will include fifth- degree blackbelts Kyoshi Tom Tanaka and Sensei Jonathan Bannister. Special guest Sensei Judy Warner, a fourth degree blackbelt from Rochester, N.Y. and local martial arts students will also perform in the multi-discipline, all-ages show.

In addition, there will be an auction of gift baskets donated by local businesses, a bake sale, and door prizes. Tickets in advance of the June 23 show are $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Tickets will be an additional $2 if purchased at the door. All proceeds from the event will go to Seattle Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center.
